During Hurricane Helene, the Region E Healthcare Coalition deployed 4 portable AC units and 2 Plum Cases to Piedmont McDuffie in Augusta and 2 generators to Hill Haven Nursing Home in Commerce (pictured). Additionally, with the help of GEMA they assisted in coordinating the deployment of a refrigerated truck to Elbert Memorial Hospital as they were running on generator power, but dietary refrigeration is not on their generator power, and they needed assistance with their dietary inventory.
Additionally, Region E provided a great deal of situational awareness during Hurricane Helene with a total of 4 skilled nursing facilities without power and running on generator, 1 hospital without power and running on generator, and 1 assisted living facility without power where accommodations were made until power was restored. Region E also remained transparent on resources available should the need arise, these resources included additional generators, oxygen concentrators, additional portable AC units, and cots.
In same time frame, Region E was also providing situational awareness to the hospitals in affected counties about the BioLab fire.
Lastly, as a result of Hurricane Helene a Baxter Medical Supply Plant was damaged affecting medical supplies. This reached Region E as well. Region E helped to coordinate with Morgan Medical Center and Elbert County EMS to get supplies from the state level that were experiencing a shortage.
